TOWN CENTRE MASTERPLAN
BURY ST EDMUNDS TOWN CENTRE MASTERPLAN ADVISORY GROUP
BTT has been represented by John Popham on West Suffolk Council’s Town Centre Masterplan Group since its inception. Following the adoption of the completed Masterplan in January 2018, what then became an Advisory Group has been working on delivering the plan’s objectives. Foremost amongst these has been the redevelopment of the former Post Office site (17-18 Cornhill) in which BTT has been actively involved since the summer of 2016 before the property came on the market and was subsequently acquired by the Council. At this early stage the Trust produced plans and a brief for the redevelopment of the site which involved retaining the Post Office façade and widening Cornhill Walk – a feature that has been incorporated into the competition winning scheme that also has a visually engaging elevation onto St Andrews St South linking it with the Arc. The project received planning approval in November 2019. Currently (March 2020), the Group is working on an enhancement scheme for St Andrews Street South.
