SOUTH AFRICAN WAR MEMORIAL

The Suffolk Regiment South African War Memorial is a Grade II Listed monument that stands in the middle of Cornhill in the historic market square of Bury St Edmunds.
11 HIGH BAXTER STREET
Restoration Completed: 2023
This Grade II house sits within the heart of Bury St Edmunds and is one of the few historic residential buildings within this area, which has been predominantly service areas for commercial and retail.
6 ANGEL HILL
Restoration Completed: 2016
A dilapidated late 17th century, Grade II listed property with fine staircases and panelled rooms. It was acquired from the Borough Council, the ground floor having been let as the Tourist information Centre.
BLANCHARD PLANTER
Restoration Completed: 2010
In 2010 the Trust, in collaboration with the Bury Society and the Borough Council, assisted with the repairs to the Grade II Listed terra cotta Blanchard planter (1874) in St Mary’s Square.
ELSEY’S MALTINGS
Restoration Completed: 2004
This property, now called The Maltings, was bought by the Borough Council who were unable to find anyone to take over the derelict site.
98a, 99 & 100 RISBYGATE STREET
Restoration Completed: 1998
Formerly a motor cycle showroom with workshop to the rear. The premises had been given consent for demolition and office redevelopment.
3 & 3a HONEY HILL
Restoration Completed: 1991
Built on the location of St. Margaret’s Gate. This property was acquired on the open market from Suffolk County Council who were using it as offices.
UNITARIAN MEETING HOUSE
Restoration Completed: 1991
In co-operation with the Trustees of the Unitarian Church, the Bury Society, the Borough Council and English Heritage, the Meeting House was restored in 1991.
4 HONEY HILL
Restoration Completed: 1988
Connected to 79 Raingate Street and renovated contemporaneously.
79 RAINGATE STREET
Restoration Completed: 1988
Formerly the Coach and Horses public house and connected to 4 Honey Hill. Extensively renovated by the Trust.
26 & 28 MUSTOW STREET
Restoration Completed: 1981
Pair of cottages bought from St Edmundsbury Borough Council for £25,000, with payment on completion of sale.
