The active campaigns of the Bury St Edmunds Town Trust
The autumn of 2020 saw four important planning consultations to which the Trust responded.
In November 2015 the Trust published a report on the future of Bury St Edmunds Railway Station. Its purpose was to explain the urgent need, in combination with undertaking long neglected essential repairs, to take a holistic approach to resolving the many problems connected with this fine Grade II listed building, which is on the Victorian Society’s national top 60 Schedule of Notable Stations.
BTT has been represented by John Popham on West Suffolk Council’s Town Centre Masterplan Group from its inception. Following the adoption of the completed Masterplan in January 2018, the council worked on delivering the plan’s objectives. Foremost amongst these was the redevelopment of the former Post Office site (17-18 Cornhill) in which BTT was actively involved from the summer of 2016 before the property came on the market and was subsequently acquired by the Council.
